Border 2 Banned In Gulf Countries: Border-2, the sequel of JP Dutta’s superhit film Border, has been released in theaters on 23 January. In the film, patriotism, sacrifice and emotional story of soldiers have once again been shown on the big screen. There is a lot of enthusiasm among the audience about the film in India and it is considered to be a good start at the box office, but this film has been banned in the Gulf countries. Let us know what is the reason for banning it and can India complain against it?
Why was there a ban in Gulf countries?
Border-2 has not been approved for release in Gulf countries. Even before this, films like Dhurandhar have been banned there in a similar manner. Actually, Gulf countries have their own social, cultural and political rules. If the story, dialogues or scenes of a film conflict with local rules or sensitive issues, the local censor board can stop it from being shown. However, regarding Border 2, it is being said that this film is anti-Pakistani, that is why it is banned in the Gulf countries.
Can the Indian government intervene directly?
When an Indian film is banned in another country, the Indian government cannot directly intervene. The reason for this is that every country takes decisions under its sovereignty. India cannot put pressure on any country to release a film against its laws.
What can be done at the diplomatic level?
However, the Indian government does not sit idly by. Diplomatic talks can be held with the concerned country through the Ministry of External Affairs. The Indian Embassy located there can know the reason for the ban and through negotiations can request to lift the ban on the film, but the final decision rests with the government and the censor board of that country.
What options do manufacturers have?
The producer or distributor of the film can take legal recourse under the local laws of that country. If they feel that the ban is wrong or discriminatory, they can appeal to the court there. Apart from this, a repeated application can also be made before the local censor board or its appeal committee.
Have bans been imposed in Gulf countries before?
This is not the first time that an Indian film has been stopped in Gulf countries. Even before this, many films have been banned there. In these countries, films are scrutinized very strictly, so that no content goes against their social structure or political viewpoint.
