In India, not only Bollywood, but there are other film industries whose films do wonders at the box office. Among these, films from Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam industries have been giving equal competition to Hindi films at the box office for the last few years.

South or Hindi, who has given the maximum Rs 500 crore?

Among Bollywood, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu industries, Bollywood holds the record of giving the highest number of Rs 500 crore films. After this, Telugu film industry is at second place. In the list below you can see which film industry has given how many 500 crore films.

  • Bollywood- 7 (Jawaan, Pathan, Dangal, Chhaava, Stree 2, Gadar 2 and Animal)
  • Tollywood (Telugu)- 5 (Pushpa 2, Kalki 2898 AD, Baahubali, Baahubali 2 and RRR)
  • Kollywood (Tamil) -1 (2.0)
  • Sandalwood (Kannada)- 2 (KGF 2 & Kantara Chapter 1)

It is clear that Tamil cinema has the least number of Rs 500 crore films. Only one Tamil film, ‘2.0’, the sequel of Rajinikanth starrer ‘Robot’, has been able to make it to this list. The most surprising film industry is Sandalwood which had only one film in this list but after ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ this number has increased to 2.
