The International Cricket Council (ICC) is preparing to take big action against Pakistan. Pakistan has refused to play the match with Team India in the T20 World Cup 2026. A media report has revealed that ICC may soon call a meeting to take further action on this matter. The ICC Board meeting may be held on Tuesday or Wednesday.
On Sunday, February 2, it was announced through social media that the Pakistan cricket team will not play the match with India in the World Cup on February 15. There is a new twist in this matter. Actually, according to sources, Pakistan Cricket Board has not yet officially informed ICC that it is going to boycott the match against India.
Let us remind you that earlier Bangladesh had refused to play the T20 World Cup citing security reasons. There was a lot of uproar on that issue, in the end ICC took strict action and removed Bangladesh from the World Cup and replaced it with Scotland. Now Pakistan has also taken a similar decision and has invited the possibility of sanctions on itself.
It is also worth noting that PCB Chief and Home Minister of Pakistan Mohsin Naqvi has till now maintained silence on not playing the match with India. Whereas Naqvi had talked about boycotting the entire T20 World Cup tournament.
What punishment can Pakistan get?
According to the same report, if Pakistan does not play the match with Team India on February 15, then ICC is preparing to take strict action against it. Due to this, Pakistan will lose 2 points in the tournament and may also have to suffer loss in terms of net run rate. Apart from this, other types of sanctions can also be imposed on Pakistan.
-PCB gets a large part of ICC’s revenue, which is one of its biggest sources of income. Pakistan Cricket Board may have to face financial crisis due to boycotting the match against India.
-The second big shock could be that foreign players could be banned from playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
-India-Pakistan match has proved to be a profitable deal not only for both the cricket boards but also for the broadcasters. In such a situation, if the match is boycotted, ICC can direct Pakistan that it will have to pay compensation to the broadcasters to compensate for the loss.
Along with the ban on all bilateral series involving Pakistan, it can also be expelled from the Asia Cup.
