BPL matches canceled after Khaleda Zia’s death, Bangladesh Cricket Board expressed grief

After the death of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a big decision. The board has canceled both the matches of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to be held on Tuesday. This information has come to light through the report of ESPNcricinfo. BCB made this announcement just a few hours before the first match.

Two BPL matches canceled

On Tuesday, the first match of BPL was to be played between Sylhet Titans and Chittagong Royals at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. At the same time, a second match was proposed between Dhaka Capitals and Rangpur Riders on the same ground in the evening, but both the matches were cancelled. BCB said in its official statement that Khaleda Zia played an important role in the development of Bangladesh cricket during her tenure. The board said, “The BCB gratefully remembers the continued blessings and good wishes of Begum Khaleda Zia for the progress of cricket in the country.”

The statement further said that while being the Prime Minister, Khaleda Zia gave great support in strengthening the cricket infrastructure and taking the game forward at the national level. Due to his support and foresight, he had an important contribution in making Bangladesh cricket where it is today. BCB made it clear that today’s BPL matches have been canceled in view of national mourning and in honor of Khaleda Zia and these matches will be rescheduled later. Died at the age of 80

Begum Khaleda Zia died on Tuesday morning at the age of 80. She was undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. According to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), he died at around 6 am, soon after Fajr prayers. Khaleda Zia was suffering from many serious diseases for a long time. He was admitted to the hospital on November 23 due to lung infection. Apart from this, he also had problems related to heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis and kidney. Earlier this month, he was also sent to London for better treatment.

Crowd gathered outside the hospital

As soon as the news of his demise spread, a large number of people gathered outside Evercare Hospital. During this time, her son and BNP working president Tariq Rehman also reached the hospital and paid tribute to his mother.
