A soul-shattering incident has come to light from Nacharam area of Hyderabad city, where the intoxication of alcohol overshadowed blood relations. The joy of the holy festival of Sankranti turned into mourning when a younger brother took the life of his elder brother over a dispute over just a glass of liquor. This incident happened when both the brothers were sitting on the terrace of the house and drinking alcohol.
According to information received from the police, the deceased has been identified as Stephen Rohan Sayers (30), while the accused is his younger brother Leonard Lionel Sayers (28). On the night of Sankranti, the two brothers had made arrangements for liquor and food on the terrace of the third floor of their house to celebrate. Around midnight, when both were drunk, Stephen asked Leonard for a glass of wine.
An argument started between the two over this trivial matter. Within no time the war of words turned into a scuffle. In a fit of rage, Leonard pushed his elder brother Stephen off the roof. Stephen suffered serious injuries after falling from a three-storey building.
Stephen died before reaching the hospital, police caught the accused
Hearing the sound of falling from the building, nearby people gathered at the spot. They immediately tried to take Stephen in a bleeding condition to a nearby hospital, but he died before reaching the hospital. As soon as the information was received, Nacharam police reached the spot and inspected the spot. Taking immediate action, the police took the accused Leonard Lionel Sayers into custody.
Police started investigation, sent the body for postmortem
Such violent incidents during Sankranti in Hyderabad point towards the growing anger and drug addiction in the society. While the entire city was immersed in kite flying and festive cheer, a glass of liquor destroyed two lives in the Sayers family’s house. One brother went to his grave and the other is now regretting his actions behind bars.
Nacharam police station has registered a case of murder and sent the body to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem. Senior police officers say that in the preliminary investigation, only the glass of liquor has come to light as the reason for the dispute, but other aspects are also being investigated.
