The longest speech in the budget history of the country is recorded in the name of the current Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. In the year 2020, he gave the budget speech in Parliament for about 2 hours 42 minutes. Which is considered to be the longest speech ever. By making this record, he himself broke the record of his 2019 budget speech. In 2019, he gave a budget speech of 2 hours 17 minutes.
If we compare the two years, his speeches in recent years have been quite short. He had completed the interim budget for the year 2024 in just 56 minutes. Which was the shortest speech of his tenure. Whereas his speech in the budget of 2025 was of about 1 hour 17 minutes.
Longest budget speech in words
If the budget speech is seen on the basis of number of words, then this record is recorded in the name of the year 1991. Manmohan Singh, who was the Finance Minister at that time, had given a budget speech of about 18,650 words in the Parliament.
Which is considered to be the longest speech till date. After this, the second place has been the budget of the year 2018, when Arun Jaitley presented the budget with a speech of about 18,604 words.
