Bangladesh has decided not to participate in the 2026 T20 World Cup. His government’s sports advisor Asif Nazrul announced on Thursday that the Bangladesh team will not go to India for the World Cup. Now today i.e. on Saturday, 24 January, ICC announced the replacement of Bangladesh. ICC has included Scotland in the 2026 T20 World Cup in place of Bangladesh. In such a situation, the question is whether Bangladesh can now change its decision and take part in the World Cup or not.? Here you will get the answer.
The ICC has officially informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that Scotland will now be included in place of Bangladesh in the upcoming T20 World Cup, as Bangladesh had refused to play in India citing security concerns after Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from the IPL.
According to the report, senior ICC officials including ICC Chairman Jay Shah were present in Dubai on Friday. ICC has informed the Bangladesh Board about this decision by sending an email to BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul late in the evening of the same day.
An ICC source told PTI on condition of anonymity, “Yesterday evening, an email was sent to the Chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board informing him that his board did not give any official response to the ICC within the 24-hour time frame on the decision on whether to come to India or not, hence the decision was taken.“
The source said, BCB held a press conference in Dhaka before giving formal information to ICC, which was a violation of protocol. They have been clearly told that now some other team is being included in their place. Bangladesh Sports Ministry advisor Asif Nazrul had advised against traveling to India despite repeated security assurances from the ICC.
Cricket Scotland has said that it has not received any official confirmation yet. However, it seems that getting formal information is now only a matter of time. In this way, Scotland will play its four matches in the group stage against West Indies (7 February), Italy (9 February) and England (14 February) in Kolkata, while its match against Nepal will be in Mumbai on 17 February.
