The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) organized a webinar on November 20 regarding the two class 10th board exams. Principals, teachers and board officials of schools across the country participated in this webinar. CBSE made it clear that both the examinations will be held in the same academic year and the same academic standards will be applicable in both. Its purpose is to give students both the main examination and an opportunity for improvement.

Principals asked questions regarding exam timing, conduct, staff availability and internal assessment. CBSE officials answered all the questions in simple language and said that the new two-exam system will provide an opportunity to students to reduce stress and improve performance.

Who can give second board exam?

The second exam is optional. Only those students can participate in it who want to improve marks in any subject. To appear in the second examination, it is mandatory to appear in the first examination. If a student is absent in the first examination then he cannot appear in the second examination. CBSE said that only about 40% students will appear in the second examination in any subject.

Which subjects will be eligible?

The second exam is only for those subjects in which students want to improve their marks. Students can choose only those subjects in which their external assessment is more than 50 marks. Subjects which have 50 or less marks cannot be included in the improvement examination.

LOC and deadlines

After the results of the first examination, CBSE will issue LOC for the second examination. Schools will get 15 days to verify the information of the students and send it to the board. The board clearly said that no additional time will be given.

Objective of two board exams

CBSE’s two-exam system gives students a main exam and an improvement chance. This allows students to improve their performance without changing the structure of the entire academic year. Same academic standards will be adopted in both the examinations.

When will the internal assessment be completed?

It is mandatory to complete the internal assessment of class 10th between January 1 and February 14, 2026. Schools have to enter all the assessments on time so that the examinations can be conducted properly and the results are ready on time.
