The country’s largest school board, the Central Board of Secondary Education, has started the board examinations for class 10th and 12th from today. Like every year, this time too there was a hustle and bustle of students and parents outside the examination centres. According to the data, more than 43 lakh students are appearing for the examination in this session, which includes approximately 24 lakh boys and 19 lakh girl students. The board had finalized the preparations related to security, monitoring and evaluation even before the commencement of the examination.
Large number of students in 10th-12th, thousands of examination centers active
This year, about 25 lakh students are registered in class 10th and about 18.5 lakh students are registered in class 12th. If we look at the gender-based figures, about 14 lakh boys and 10.9 lakh girls are appearing in the 10th class examination. Whereas 10.2 lakh boys and 8.3 lakh girl students are appearing in class 12th.
8,074 centers for class 10th and 7,574 centers for class 12th have been created to conduct the examinations. Class 10th exams will continue till March 10, while Class 12th exams will end on April 10. In view of organizing the examination on such a large scale, the administrative machinery is also fully active.
Challenge on the very first day, start 10th with mathematics
This time some changes have also been seen in the examination schedule. Mathematics paper has been set for class 10th students on the very first day, which is generally considered a relatively difficult subject. Earlier this paper was held in the middle or final stage, but this time the schedule has been changed.
Whereas for class 12th students, exams for subjects like Biotechnology, Business Studies and Entrepreneurship have been scheduled on the initial day. Admit cards have already been issued by the board to appear in the examination and schools have given guidelines to the students.
Strictness in rules, special emphasis on time and dress code.
The board has issued clear instructions regarding examination discipline. The gates of the examination center will be closed at 10 am and students arriving after that will not be allowed entry. Therefore, students have been advised to reach the center before time.
Under the dress code, it is mandatory for regular students to come in school uniform. Private candidates have been allowed to wear simple and light colored clothes.
New system for checking copies, step towards digital evaluation
This time the 12th answer sheets will be evaluated through ‘on-screen marking’ system. That is, the copies will be scanned and made available to the teachers through digital medium, so that the investigation process can be more transparent and systematic.
Double chance for 10th class students
A special thing about this session is that 10th class students are being given the opportunity to appear in the board examination twice. This step is being seen as reducing exam pressure on students and giving them a chance to perform better.
