The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken a big decision to stop cheating in class 10th and 12th board examinations. Under the new rules, if any student is caught cheating during the examination, the result of his/her respective subject will be cancelled. Not only this, now the facility of passing that subject by replacing it with the marks of sixth or seventh subject has also been abolished.
What was the rule before?
Earlier, there was a system in CBSE board that if a student was caught cheating in any one subject and his result was canceled in that subject, then he could change that subject with the marks of his additional i.e. sixth or seventh subject. Due to this rule, many students used to pass on the basis of total marks. According to the previous records of CBSE, in the main examinations of the year 2025, there were about 30 to 40 percent students who were declared passed with the help of additional subject marks despite being caught under unfair means.

Why did CBSE change the rules?
In the review meeting of the board, it was found that many students were taking advantage of the system of passing with additional subject marks. This could have affected the fairness and transparency of the examination. For this reason, CBSE decided to change this rule and implemented the provision of strict action in cases of copying.
What will be the new rule now?
According to the new rules implemented by CBSE, if any student is caught cheating in any subject then the result of that subject will be canceled immediately. Along with this, it will not be allowed to change that subject with the marks of any additional subject. Such students will be kept in compartment category and they will have to appear in the examination of the same subject again.
This new rule will be applicable to both class 10th and 12th board examinations of CBSE from the year 2026. Important advice for students: This decision of CBSE has made it clear that discipline and honesty are most important in the board examination. If any student is caught cheating, he will have to suffer direct loss and will have to re-appear in the examination of the same subject.
