The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has started a major initiative keeping in mind the mental health and welfare of the students. From the 2025-26 academic session, the board has implemented “Counseling Hub and Spoke School Model”. The aim of this model is that every child can get counseling services and support related to mental health at the right time.
In today’s time, the pressure, stress and anxiety of competition on children along with studies is increasing. In such an environment, many times children are unable to tell their problems openly at home or school. This new step of CBSE can prove to be a big relief for the students.
Start and main objective of model
This model is inspired by the thinking of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Education should not only be limited to books and numbers and strengthen the mental health and life skills of children, this initiative has been made on this idea. The board says that now an associate network will be formed among the schools, which will give psychological and social support to the students at every level. This step will not only make access to counseling services to students, but will also increase the institutional capacity of schools.
Message sent to which institutions
CBSE has sent information about this initiative to many big educational institutions and departments across the country. These include Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Eklavya Model Residential School, Sainik School, Odisha Adarsh Vidyalaya Sangathan, State Education Directorate, Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) and Central Tibetan School Administration.
How will the hub and spoke model work
This model will have two types of schools – Hub School and Spoke School.
Hub School – They will work like the main center. They will have experienced counselors and trained health teachers.
Spoke School – These hubs will be connected to the school and will implement the activities fixed every month.
Counselors of hub schools and counselors of spoke schools together will conduct activities for students. Such as workshops on mental health, classmate learning activities, group counseling and personal counseling on need.
Role of principal and counselor
The role of school chief or principal will be the most important in this entire model. They will keep an eye on all activities and give guidelines. Under his guidance, counselors and health teachers will help children. Counselors will not only listen to the problems of children but will also lead them to the solution. For example – how to reduce the stress of the exam, how to keep pace with classmates, or increase confidence.
Reporting and monitoring arrangements
- CBSE has also added a strong reporting system to this initiative.
- Every spoke school will have to send a month -long report to its hub school.
- The hub school will collect all these reports and send it to CBSE by 5th of every month.
- For this, Google form will be used, so that the entire process is transparent and easy.
- In this way, CBSE will continue to get information about how effective counseling activities are and which areas need to be improved.
