US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held an important summit in Alaska on Friday. The two leaders discussed efforts to end the Ukraine war, but no final agreement was agreed. The meeting lasted three hours and both of them described it as ‘fruitful’ and ‘mutually respectable’.
Trump and Putin’s statement on meeting
US President Donald Trump said, “There will be no agreement until the entire agreement is done.” He admitted that some issues have been agreed, but some points are still left. Putin described the talks as ‘intensive and useful’ and said that Russia honestly wants to end Ukraine War, but its ‘legitimate concerns’ has to be taken care of.
Putin welcomes B-2 bomber in America
The meeting took place at Akrej, Alaska, in which the delegation of both countries was present. The two leaders met with top advisors in three-three formats. Marco Rubio along with Trump and some other officers along with Vitchoff are also present. At the same time, Sergei Lavarov and Finance Minister Anton Siluanov and Economic Advisor Kiril Dimitriyav were also present in the Russian side. President Putin was welcomed by the B-2 bomber in the US. Trump played applause as soon as Putin came to the red carpet. Earlier, Trump waited for Putin to reach Alaska for about half an hour.
Talk to media and warning of Putin
In the joint press conference, the two leaders did not take questions from journalists. Putin hoped that ‘Kiev and European countries will take it creatively and will not obstruct it.’ He warned that progress should not be interrupted by any ‘provocative or conspiracy behind the curtain’. He insisted that the case of Ukraine is related to the national security of Russia and the balance of security in Europe and the world should be restored.
Russia’s terms and Ukraine’s trend
Russia has already demanded that Ukraine leave the ambition to join NATO and hand over its eastern regions to Russia, which he has already joined himself. Ukraine has rejected these demands and says that it should be guaranteed security in any peace agreement so that Russia does not attack again.
future prospects
Trump said that many issues have been agreed but no clear roadmap was revealed about the future of Ukraine war. Putin said that America and Russia should cooperate and hoped for further progress. While leaving the stage, Putin smiled in English and said- “Next time in Moscow.”
Old relationship and criticism
Trump has been praising Putin before. After the meeting held in 2018, he faced strong criticism when he paid attention to Putin’s statement instead of American intelligence agencies.
Trump’s claim and Putin’s stance
Before returning to the White House, Trump said that he has a good relationship with Putin. He blamed former President Joe Biden for the war and claimed that he could bring peace in 24 hours. However, Putin did not indicate the agreement despite several conversation and publicly reprimanding Ukrainian President Volodimir Jailonsky at the White House on 28 February.
Part ahead with strict warning
Trump admitted that he was disappointed with Putin and warned that if he did not consider a ceasefire, he would have “very serious consequences”, but still he met in Alaska. This meeting is also considered historic as the US bought Alaska from Russia in 1867.
