Indian women’s cricket team created history by winning the ICC Women’s World Cup title for the first time. Mumbai’s D.Y. India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final played at Patil Stadium.
There is an atmosphere of celebration in the entire country. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has announced a reward of Rs 51 crore for the players and support staff. He called it a big moment for Indian women’s cricket.
IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal also compared this victory with the World Cup won by the men’s team in 1983. She said that today has become a memorable day in the history of women’s cricket, and now women’s cricket will reach new heights.
Dhumal told IANS, “This is a memorable day for Indian women’s cricket. What the men’s team had achieved in 1983, Indian women have repeated today in Mumbai. This historic win will give a huge boost to women’s cricket in the country and I am confident that our game will now reach new heights.”
In this match, India batted first and scored 298 runs. Shefali Verma scored 87 runs, Deepti Sharma scored 58 runs and Smriti Mandhana scored 45 runs. India’s opening pair gave a strong start to the team by making a partnership of 100 runs.
In reply, South Africa made a good start, but India turned the match in its favor by taking quick wickets. Deepti Sharma bowled brilliantly and took 5 wickets. Shefali Verma also did wonders with the ball and took 2 wickets. South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt scored 101 runs, but her team was all out for 246 runs.
With this victory, a new era has begun in Indian women’s cricket. There were tears of joy in the eyes of the players and the tricolor of the country was waving proudly.
