Breast Cervical Pain: Nowadays, shoulder pain i.e. cervical pain has become a common problem. Various reasons are given behind this, such as using laptop, mobile for a long time, sitting in wrong position and stress etc. But do you know that breast size in women also affects it? Most women are not aware of this, but large breast size can also cause cervical pain. This fact has come out in many research and health reports. Let us tell you how it causes cervical pain and how it can be avoided.
How is it affected?
According to a research published in PubMed Central, a study “The Association Between Female Breast Size, Backache, and Spinal Pain” found that larger breast size is associated with pain in the thoracic and cervical areas. For example, only 4.9 percent of those with a B cup complained of back pain, while 85 percent of those with a DD/E cup had back pain. If we understand this in more simple words, it means that in that research, among the women whose breast size was B cup, only about 4.9 percent women complained of back pain.
Whereas, when it was seen on women with DD or E cup size, about 85 percent of the women had pain in the back or cervical area. That means, the larger the breast size, the greater the risk of neck and back pain. In another published study “The relationship between breast size and aspects of health” (2020) it came out that for every increase in breast size, the chances of women reporting upper back pain increases by 13 percent.
Bengaluru based Aesthetics and Plastic Surgeon Dr N. Jitendran said that women who have larger breast size, such as D cup or larger, have more problems with cervical pain. These pull the body forward and this increases the pressure on the neck and shoulder muscles, due to which such problems start occurring.
How to protect?
If we talk about prevention, then always wear a supportive and properly fitting bra. What happens is that bra or wide strap bra reduces the pressure on the neck and shoulders. Always keep one thing in mind that avoid bras with thin straps, because they can put deep pressure on the shoulders. Apart from this, make a habit of sitting and standing straight, avoid sitting with bent shoulders and apply hot or cold compress in case of mild pain.
