On January 5, two masked thieves stole silver jewelery worth lakhs from the house of jeweler Vinod Khandelwal in Uparhatti locality of City Kotwali area of ​​Rewa, Madhya Pradesh and fled away. The police, while disclosing this matter, have arrested two accused and recovered stolen goods from them. This incident created a stir in the entire area and local businessmen also expressed anger over it.

Initially this incident was a big challenge for the police, because the miscreants had covered their faces, but in a CCTV a miscreant was captured eating gutkha and his identity was revealed, after which the police arrested him.

What is the whole matter?

This incident of theft took place in Uprahati locality under City Kotwali police station area. Vinod Khandelwal, who lives here, runs a jewelery shop at his home. On January 5, 2026, all the members of the house had gone to Prayagraj to take a bath in the Ganga in the morning, while Vinod Khandelwal was at home.

Late in the evening, around 7 o’clock, Vinod Khandelwal left the door of his house open and went to the adjacent shop to buy potatoes. On returning, Vinod Khandelwal saw a masked criminal running away from inside. After this, when he went inside the shop, the jewelery operator was shocked.

The jewelery operator noticed that precious jewelery made of silver was missing from the shop. The theft incident created a stir in the area. The incident was immediately informed to the City Kotwali Police. The police registered a case against the unknown thief and started searching for him. The police examined the CCTV footage installed in the shop in which the masked criminal was captured. When the police intensified the investigation on the basis of CCTV footage, the identification of the thief became easy.

Eating Gutkha proved costly for the thief.

In the CCTV footage, before committing the theft, the miscreant had removed the mask from his face and consumed gutkha. As soon as clear facial photographs were obtained, the police detained two suspects and took them to the police station. When the team strictly interrogated the arrested Rajendra Soni and Chirag Badhwani, both of them confessed to the theft in the jewelery shop.

Both of them had done Reiki earlier

According to the police, masked thief Rajendra Soni along with his associate Chirag Badhwani had conducted a recce of Khandelwal jewelery shop on his scooter. As soon as the shop operator left the door of the house open and went to the adjacent shop to get the goods, Rajendra Soni covered his face with a mask and entered the house. After this, he entered the shop from inside the house and took away silver jewelery worth around Rs 3 lakh and fled from the spot in his friend’s scooter.

The police have also recovered the stolen jewelery from the miscreants, apart from this the scooter used in the crime has also been seized. At present the police is interrogating the accused, it is also being ascertained whether they were involved in such incidents earlier also.

CCTV made it easier to catch a thief

Additional SP Sandeep Mishra said that after the theft incident in the jewelery shop, the police had registered a case and started investigation. The team had received some technical evidence. The miscreant had removed the mask from his face to consume gutkha. During this time, he was captured in the CCTV camera, due to which he was identified and the team arrested the main accused along with another of his associates.

Silver jewelery worth Rs 3 lakh has been recovered from the arrested accused. Scooty was also seized and further action is being taken after interrogating both the accused.
