Relationship between Sun God and Chhathi Maiya
The relationship between Surya Dev and Chhathi Maiya is that of brother and sister. According to religious beliefs, Chhathi Maiya (Shashthi Devi) is the sister of Lord Surya and Chhath Puja is performed in her honour.
In this puja, devotees offer Arghya to the Sun God and worship Chhathi Maiya and seek blessings from him for the happiness, peace, prosperity of the house and the longevity of their children.
