A fierce encounter is going on between security forces and Naxalites in Peddagelur area of Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. Since morning, intermittent sounds of firing have been heard in the forests. Security forces have surrounded the area from all sides and the search operation has been intensified. It is being told that a large squad of Naxalites was present here, on the information of which action was taken.
Naxalite commander killed with a reward of Rs 8 lakhs
Naxalites have suffered a major setback in this encounter. There is news that Naxalite commander Udham Singh, carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh, has been killed. Udham Singh was on the radar of security forces for a long time and his name had appeared in many major Naxalite incidents. Clues found from the spot are pointing towards the fact that the killed Naxalite is Udham Singh.
Joint operation of DRG and Cobra soldiers
District Reserve Guard (DRG) and CRPF’s Cobra Battalion personnel are involved in this entire operation. The soldiers surrounded the area in a very strategic manner and did not give the Naxalites a chance to retreat. The operation remains challenging due to the forest and hilly areas, but the security forces are moving forward with full caution.
AK-47 and weapons recovered
An automatic AK-47 rifle and a large quantity of ammunition are reported to have been recovered from the encounter site. Apart from this, some other Naxalite items have also been recovered. It is clear from this that the Naxalites were planning some major incident.
Search operation continues in the area
Security forces fear that some Naxalites have escaped under the cover of the forest. For this reason, the search operation is going on continuously in the entire area. Officials say that complete information will be shared only after the operation is completed. At present, alert is issued in Peddagelur and surrounding areas.
