In this episode, veteran actress Sharmila Tagore has expressed her opinion and explained the difference between nepotism and inheritance.
While talking in Soha Ali Khan’s podcast ‘All About Her’, Sharmila Tagore said – ‘Children are inspired by the work of their parents, it is completely natural. Inspiring children is not limited to films only. Doctor, lawyer, painter, musician, children in every profession learn by watching their parents and want to become like them. This is a normal thing and there is nothing wrong in it.
‘Getting the first chance can be easy…’
Sharmila further said- ‘It is absolutely natural for parents to have influence on children and it is normal for any profession. Soha’s daughter Inaya is getting inspired by seeing her mother working. If Soha does a podcast, Inaya is showing interest in it and is slowly starting to understand it. If a parent or star is very influential, they can get their child the first job. But after this, in the industry it completely depends on the audience whether they like that artist or not. Getting the first opportunity may be easy, but further success depends on the audience’s choice and the hard work of the artist.
Star kids are beneficial for producers!
Talking on nepotism, Sharmila Tagore says- ‘If the influence of parents is too much, then perhaps they may even give their child a second chance. But their influence is limited to this only. Film makers also invest on a large scale. If the name of an actor or star kid is already known, then it acts as a little security for the producer. If you call it nepotism, then it is possible that the producer may benefit more from it because he does not have to put much effort in advertising with already known names. This is only initial help, but after that the hard work of the artist and the choice of the audience decides whether he will move ahead or not.
Sharmila finally says- ‘It is impossible for any star kid to get continuous success just because of name. The real test is whether he can impress the audience with his work and talent.
