China conducted a secret nuclear test in 2020. This incident happened a few days after the violent clashes with India in the Galwan Valley and at a time when the world was struggling with Covid-19. This was disclosed by US Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Dinano during the United Nations Disarmament Conference in Geneva on Friday.
These allegations have been made at a time when the last nuclear weapons agreement between the US and Russia ended on February 5 and President Trump is keen to include China in any future nuclear deal.

Posting on X, Dinano said that America has intelligence about China conducting secret nuclear tests to avoid the attention of global agencies. A senior US official claimed that China conducted a similar nuclear test on June 22, 2020. This happened just seven days after the clash between Indian and Chinese armies in Galwan amid the border dispute in eastern Ladakh, the deadliest confrontation between New Delhi and Beijing.
20 Indian soldiers were martyred in the face-to-face clash in Galwan. According to global reports, China never officially disclosed the number of casualties, but more of its soldiers were martyred than India. This deadlock ended in 2024 only after an agreement was reached between the two parties.

Now it has come to light that China conducted this secret nuclear test at the Lop Noor site in the Xinjiang region bordering India. The US official said that China used a technique called decoupling, which made it difficult to detect seismic signals. He told that decoupling is a technique in which an explosion is carried out in a large underground pit to suppress seismic waves. This is a popular way to hide such tests.
The US official said that his government is aware that China has conducted nuclear explosive tests, including preparations for tests with a rated capacity of hundreds of tons. China used decoupling to hide its activities from the world.
