China has clarified about its rapidly growing nuclear weapons reserves that it is still in line with its minimum requirements. China, however, dismissed the possibility of joining the nuclear competition to equal the US and Russia, saying it is not involved in any race for nuclear weapons, but its policy is of minimal resistance.
According to the information, China is preparing more than 100 new nuclear weapons every year and now it has about 600 nuclear weapons in total.
According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) released on Monday (June 16, 2025) by a Swedish thinker institution, Beijing has added 100 additional weapons to its atomic reserves every year since 2023. According to him, it currently has at least 600 weapons, and it is feared that this number will continue to increase in the coming decade.
The report said, ‘China has the fastest growing nuclear arsenal in the world where most of the Chinese nuclear age has been kept separate from their launch, while it is believed that China is now starting to deploy nuclear weapons on limited number of missiles- in the same way that America does on a large scale. According to Sipri estimates, 132 nuclear armaments have been handed over to the launchrs on which the process of loading is currently underway.
According to observers, China’s growing nuclear weapons reserves will also have an impact on India, as Pakistan’s close ally Pakistan is also accelerating its nuclear weapon program. When asked the response to the SIPRI report, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said in a media talk on Monday that China does not have to comment on this report.
Guo reiterated that China has always followed the nuclear strategy of self -defense and has maintained its nuclear capabilities at the minimum level for national security without joining any weapon race.
He said that China strictly follows the policy of not using nuclear weapons at any time, under any circumstances and does not threaten to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear states. Analysts say that China is rapidly carrying on its nuclear and missile program, which is the world -class military power.
The report stated that by January, China had completed construction of three large desert areas in its north and about 350 new ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) Silo (place to have a missile) in its north and was close to completion. However, till that date it was not clear whether any of these ICBM units were yet deployed or not.
