Rare Earth import India: A good news has come to light amidst the ongoing dispute between India and neighboring country China regarding rare earth. Three Bharti companies have got approval to import rare earths from China. According to media reports, Continental India, Hitachi and Jay Ushin Company have received this approval.
Some restrictions have also been imposed by China regarding this import. China clearly said that these rare earth magnets cannot be used in making defense equipment. Besides, there will be a ban on export of these resources to America.
China has a treasure of rare earths
China controls 80 percent of the rare earths present in the world. India is heavily dependent on China for rare earths. Recently, a ban was imposed on the export of rare earth magnets by China. Due to which the chances of its shortage in India had increased.
If we talk about the figures, India has imported 870 tonnes of rare earth magnets from China in the financial year 2024-25. However, after this ban, India is also working on other options. So that its dependence on China can be reduced.
India has limited reserves
Rare earth reserves are present in Indian states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. India has about 6 percent of the world’s rare earths. The dispute between India and China regarding rare earth has been going on for a long time. To stop India’s growing technology and progress, restrictions were imposed on rare earths by China.
These rare earths are used in batteries, electric vehicles, modern machines and various fields. Due to their special properties, rare earth metals are in demand all over the world. China is one of the largest exporters of rare earths.
