Following the recent clashes between Pakistan and Afghan Taliban, both sides have agreed to implement a temporary ceasefire for 48 hours. However, minor clashes still continue on the borders. China has welcomed this step and advised both the countries to remain calm and find a solution through dialogue.
China supported
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that this step of Pakistan and Afghanistan is in line with common interests and regional peace. China supports this initiative and advised both countries to stay on the path of restraint and dialogue. Lin said that China’s trade and energy cooperation with other countries, including Russia, is completely legitimate, while America’s stance has often been one-sided and coercive.
Clashes on Pakistan and Afghanistan border
The conflict between Pakistan and Afghan Taliban started on 8 October. Pakistani Army said that it foiled attacks by Afghan Taliban on the Balochistan border. After this, there were civilian casualties in Afghan attack and Pakistani air strikes in Spin Boldak area of Kandahar. After this violent clash, both sides deployed tanks on the border and a 48-hour ceasefire was implemented on Wednesday evening.
China’s message
Lin Jian said that Pakistan and Afghanistan are friendly neighbors of China. China wants the two countries to resolve mutual differences through dialogue, adopt political solutions, and maintain border and regional stability. China also said that it is ready to improve relations between the two countries and play a constructive role.
Ceasefire announced on Wednesday
Pakistan said on Wednesday that a 48-hour ceasefire has been agreed upon with Afghanistan. This announcement was made at a time when many people from both sides were killed in the border conflict between the two countries. The Foreign Office said, ‘At the request of the Taliban, a temporary ceasefire has been decided by mutual consent of both sides between the Government of Pakistan and the Taliban regime of Afghanistan for the next 48 hours from 6 pm on Wednesday.’ However, Afghanistan government’s chief spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said that ‘at the request and insistence of the Pakistani side, the ceasefire between the two countries will come into effect after 5:30 pm on Wednesday.’
