Before the Delhi Assembly elections, in May 2024, Lovely and Chauhan announced to leave the Congress and joined the BJP.
Rajkumar Chauhan won from Mangolpuri seat on a BJP ticket in the 2025 election. He defeated AAP candidate Rakhi Birla. Earlier in the 2013, 2015 and 2025 elections, Birla defeated Chauhan, who was contesting on a Congress ticket. Earlier, Chauhan was an MLA from 1993 to 2013.
Who is Arvinder Singh Lovely?
At the same time, Arvinder Singh Lovely became the President of Delhi Congress twice and he was a minister in Sheela Dixit government. He first became an MLA from Gandhinagar in 1998. He also won in the 2003, 2008 and 2013 elections. He then resigned from Congress in 2017 and joined BJP. However, he again joined the Congress again in February 2018.
Lovely joined BJP in May 2024 after staying in the party for nearly four years. Since the formation of the BJP government, there was speculation about giving the post to Lovely.
