Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has given great relief to millions of slums of the capital. He has given clear instructions that no slum will be broken in Delhi now.
CM Rekha Gupta has ordered railway, DDA and all other government agencies not to remove any slum until the slums get alternative housing. The Chief Minister says that if needed, the policy of slums will also be changed.
50 thousand flats will be given to slums
The Chief Minister also announced that about 50 thousand old flats built on the outskirts of Delhi will be rectified and given to the slums. These flats were built under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, but the previous governments did not use them so that they remained in empty and shabby condition.
CM Gupta said that previous governments used the slums only as a vote bank. They neither built roads of water arrangements in slums nor arranged sewer and drains. Some leaders worked to promote alcoholism in these areas, which spread waste in the slum areas.
‘Government will give the right to honor to slums’
Rekha Gupta said that her government will give the slums the right to live with respect. Now these people will also be able to proudly call themselves Delhiwala. He said that if needed, his government will also knock on the door of the court, but under no circumstances will not allow the slums to be homeless.
‘Will make money in improving flats’
He informed that the central government has also agreed to repair and allotment of flats. Earlier this money (about 732 crore) was to be returned to the Central Government but now it will be spent in improving the flats. These flats will be given to the slums under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
‘Millions of people live in slums’
Significantly, there are about 675 slum clusters in Delhi in which millions of people live. For years, these people have been living without electricity, water and cleanliness facilities. This decision of Rekha Gupta government has given new hope to the families living in these areas.
‘To give equal rights to slums’
The Chief Minister in the end said that the purpose of his government is not only to save the slums but to give equal rights and better life to the slums. The government will take all necessary steps so that they can get the rights of the poor on time.
