While replying to the discussion on the Governor’s address in the Legislative Council during the budget session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislature, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath raised the issue of honoring Vande Mataram prominently. On Monday, February 16, 2026, CM Yogi said that Vande Mataram is a symbol of the pride of India and insulting the national anthem is a disregard for the Constitution. The Chief Minister said that if anyone living in India does not respect the national anthem, then it is an insult to the Constitution. He compared derogatory remarks towards national symbols to treason.
CM Yogi said that it is the responsibility of all of us to respect the national symbols and have respect for the constitutional heads under the system of the Constitution. Criticizing the behavior of the opposition towards the Governor, he said that it not only weakens democracy but is also an insult to women power. According to him, it is foolish to expect the kind of opposition to respect the constitutional head. Expressing his gratitude to the Chairman, the Chief Minister said that the Governor’s address is a document of the achievements and future plans of the government and about 51 members contributed in taking the discussion forward.
Referring to the last nine years, the Chief Minister said that Uttar Pradesh has traveled from crime and chaos to discipline, from curfew to rule of law, from disturbance to celebration and from problem to solution. He claimed that before 2017, the state had become synonymous with anarchy, the morale of the police was broken, neither the daughters nor the businessmen were safe. Today rule of law is established in the state and the first condition of development is the rule of law. He said that earlier there was a situation of ‘one district one mafia’, whereas due to the double engine government, investment, social security and self-reliance have been promoted in the state.

CM Yogi gave the example of Prayagraj Sangam
CM Yogi said that today Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the trinity of tech, trust and transformation. Giving the example of Sangam of Prayagraj, he said that just as Triveni meets there, similarly the stream of technology, faith and change is flowing in the state. Referring to the AI Impact Summit, he said that India is moving forward under a well-planned action plan. The Chief Minister said that now UP has changed from fear zone to faith zone, instead of curfew culture there is a culture of zero tolerance and festive and temple economy is growing rapidly.
The Chief Minister targeted the Samajwadi Party and alleged that it glorifies the invaders and adopts the tendency to mislead. He said that such thinking will not be accepted in the new India and new Uttar Pradesh. Referring to Maharaja Suheldev and Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar, he said that the state is moving towards respecting its cultural heritage. CM said that after 2017, no communal rights took place in the state, now there is neither curfew nor riots, but Uttar Pradesh has become recognized as a festival state.
‘Today a grand Ram temple has been constructed…’
During his address in the Legislative Council, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also made a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party on cultural and religious issues. He said that SP has been opposing Ram Temple and Kashi Vishwanath Dham and used to ban Janmashtami and Kanwar Yatra. The Chief Minister alleged that bullets were fired at Ram devotees and lawyers were made to oppose the construction of Ram temple, whereas today the grand Ram temple has been constructed and crores of devotees are coming for darshan. Referring to the construction of the grand temple of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar in Kashi, he said that the government is working to respect the cultural heritage, whereas the Samajwadi Party has been adopting the tendency to mislead.
CM Yogi said that Uttar Pradesh is now identified with events like Deepotsav, whereas earlier the state was insulted by calling it a ‘sick state’. He claimed that when his government came to power in 2017, the state’s GDP was around Rs 13 lakh crore, but now it has increased by Rs 23 lakh crore and the state’s economy has reached Rs 36 lakh crore. The Chief Minister said that the government has not imposed any new tax on the public, but has stopped tax evasion and increased revenue through transparency.
