It is extremely cold in the capital Delhi and the cold wave is not going to leave. On Thursday (1 January), the Meteorological Department said that cold wave conditions may persist in Delhi from 2 to 5 January. According to the Meteorological Department, cold wave is declared when the minimum temperature reaches 4.5-6.5 degrees Celsius. On the first day of the new year, the maximum temperature recorded in Delhi was 17.3 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 10.6 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has predicted that cold wave conditions will continue in Rajasthan, Punjab and Delhi till January 5.

Deep to very dense fog forecast till January 6

Till January 6, deep to very dense fog can be seen in the morning and night at many places in Delhi. Visibility remained poor in many areas on January 1. The minimum visibility of 500 meters was recorded in Safdarjung from 10.30 pm on 31 December to 8.30 am on 1 January. However, by 9 am the visibility improved and it reached 600 meters.

Very light drizzle at some places on January 1

At the same time, visibility of 500 meters was recorded in Palam from 9.30 pm on December 31 to 8 am on Thursday. It increased to 600 meters by 8.30 in the morning. There was very light rain or drizzle at some places in Delhi in the morning, while the sky remained partly cloudy throughout the day.

How will the weather be on January 2?

For Friday (January 2), the Meteorological Department has predicted partly cloudy sky and light fog at many places and dense fog at some places in the morning. The maximum temperature is likely to be between 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. Whereas the minimum temperature can remain between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius.

Describing the weather pattern, IMD scientist Naresh Kumar said that an active western disturbance is over northern Pakistan. Due to its effect, there was light to moderate rain and snowfall in the Western Himalayan region and very light rain in NCR also.
