Apart from this, Delsey’s elder brother Jorge Rodriguez is also considered very close to Maduro. Delsey Rodriguez partially completed her studies in France, where she specialized in labor law. After this, he rapidly reached high positions in the government of Nicolas Maduro, who is now taking charge of Venezuela as interim leader.
Rodriguez improved Venezuela’s economic condition
Rodriguez, 56, is also known as a leader who has built bridges with Venezuela’s economic elites, foreign investors and diplomats, presenting herself as a cosmopolitan technocrat with a global outlook in a military-dominated and male-dominated government.
Between 2013 and 2021, Venezuela’s economy has gone through a severe crisis. After this period, Rodriguez led market-friendly reforms, which gave the country some sense of economic stability before the US military targeted Maduro.
Additionally, due to the privatization of the country’s assets and relatively conservative fiscal policies, the Venezuelan economy was somewhat better positioned to withstand the Trump administration’s sanctions and blockade of oil tankers.
Rodriguez rejected Trump’s claim
Delsey Rodriguez addressed the nation through the government TV channel on Saturday (January 3, 2026). Regarding which President Trump claimed that Rodriguez has taken oath as the new President of Venezuela, but in his address, Rodriguez repeatedly said clearly that Nicolas Maduro is the only legitimate President of Venezuela. At the same time, even on the government TV channel, Rodriguez was shown as the Vice President of the country. As soon as his address ended, the government channel clarified that Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has made it clear that the President of Venezuela is still Maduro.
