The election atmosphere has gathered momentum in Assam. A show of strength was seen here in Mariani and Jorhat on Friday. Here, Congress-Raijor Dal alliance candidate Dr. Gyanashree Bora filed her nomination for the assembly elections. Amidst the election noise, Mariani Assembly has become a political arena. During the nomination rally, a large crowd was seen in support of Dr. Bora. During this time a grand rally was also taken out. Hundreds of supporters participated in it. Drum beats, slogans and tremendous Ustah supporters were seen. Nominations were filed in the Commissioner Office of Jorhat.
While talking to the media, Dr. Bora said that if the public elects her, she will raise issues related to Mariani in every session of the Assembly. Also said that his priority will be to effectively listen to the voice of the people. Also, concrete steps will be taken to solve long standing problems.
My politics will be dedicated to public service: Dr. Bora
Dr. Bora said that the decision to enter politics will be about public service and development of Mariani for the people of the assembly. He underlined the need to give priority to issues like Assam-Nagaland border dispute, shortage of drinking water, poor condition of roads and unemployment.
During this, in his address he also targeted the current MLA Roop Jyotikurmi. He said that despite being given repeated opportunities in the last 25 years, the problems related to Mariani were not raised effectively in the Assembly. He also said that while on one hand the public has strengthened his position over the years, on the other hand the voice of this constituency has remained largely unheard.
Why is Mariani Assembly important?
This contest of Mariani Assembly is also important because the current MLA Roop Jyoti Kurmi is a five-time MLA from this area. He had won this seat as a Congress leader before joining BJP in 2021. After changing parties he contested elections again. Won again in the by-election. This further strengthened his position in the area. Apart from this, Dr. Bora has pointed towards the wave of change in the area. He claimed that he is getting massive support from different panchayats. This support from the public has further strengthened their confidence that the election results will be in their favor.
Apart from this, he also accused the government of putting pressure on constitutional rights and freedom of expression. Also criticized the politics of religion and caste. He said that this election will be a collective fight for the opposition parties. This is a battle fought for the people. Ultimately the public will win. If she is elected, she will raise issues related to Mariani in the Assembly. Actually, Mariani is considered a strong stronghold of BJP. But in such a situation the question is whether Dr. Gyanashree Bora will be able to win the trust of the voters?
