A high-profile family dispute has now taken the form of a legal battle in the Delhi High Court. Priya Kapoor, wife of Karisma Kapoor’s late ex-husband Sunjay Kapoor, has filed a defamation case against her sister-in-law Mandira Kapoor Smith and controversial podcast host Pooja Chaudhary. Priya Kapoor has demanded compensation of Rs 20 crore from the court.
‘serious damage to image and reputation‘
In the application filed in Delhi High Court, Priya Kapoor alleges that such things were said against her in the podcast which caused serious damage to her image and respect. According to the lawsuit, during the conversation, Mandira Kapoor Smith described Priya Kapoor as an outsider and said that she had no legitimate right over the Kapoor family’s inheritance, property or business. He also reportedly said that the family’s wealth and inheritance belonged only to blood relatives and their children.
The petition also alleges that Priya Kapoor was portrayed as if she was trying to take over the family legacy after Sanjay Kapoor’s death and sidelining other members. He was also accused of taking unfair financial advantage and increasing his influence.
Wrong information spread on social media
Priya Kapoor says that all these statements were made deliberately and maliciously and were later spread on digital platforms like YouTube, Instagram and X, due to which her social reputation is continuously being damaged. It has also been said in the lawsuit that this is not a one-time incident but is part of a long-running enmity, pressure and harassment. Which earlier came in the form of legal complaints against her late husband and demand for money and now after his demise, Priya Kapoor is being targeted. Priya Kapoor has appealed to the court to stop these alleged defamatory statements and to provide her justice.
