Controversy over the name of Narmada as hen, Brahmin society expressed resentment in Harda, MP

In Abgaon Khurd in Harda district of Madhya Pradesh, a college operator named a chicken species as ‘Narmada’, on which the Narmadiya Brahmin society has expressed displeasure. People of this society said that Narmada is not just a river, but our revered goddess. Adding this name to the chicken is an insult to our faith.

Regarding this, the people of the society submitted a memorandum to the Joint Collector and demanded action against the college operator. Ashok Parashar, a trustee of Narmadiya Samaj, said, “Mother Narmada is our adorable, it is wrong to use such names for a chicken.”

What was written in the poster?
In the post that there was a dispute, the college’s director Dr. Rajiv Khare wrote on social media that he has chickens of ‘Narmada’ species and he is selling them.

The poster wrote, “Lal Bahadur Shastri Animal Husbandry College, Poultry Farm Training Form is available for the sale of indigenous chickens (Kadaknath, Narmada and Sonali) for self-employment of district dwellers.”

‘There was no purpose to hurt any emotion’
At the same time, Dr. Khare says that he has bought chickens from Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary University, Jabalpur and from there he got the name ‘Narmada’. He said, “We did not do this with the intention of hurting someone’s spirit. Now we have changed the name in the poster.”
