Country Without Railway Stations: Railways is a very fast and easy transport system in the world. But despite this, there are some countries where there is not even a single railway station. Due to geography, history, economy and population, there is no railway facility here. In these countries, bus, car, flight, and ferry are the main basis of daily travel. Let us know which are those countries and how they manage mobility.

countries without any railway station

The first name in this list comes from Bhutan. Due to the rugged Himalayan terrain in Bhutan, there is no railway station here. Building tracks through steep hills and deep valleys will be technically more difficult and expensive. This is the only reason why people use government buses and private vehicles to travel between cities.

Along with this, Andorra is another country between France and Spain where there is no railway station. Its size is quite small and the hilly terrain keeps it away from railway facilities. A well-connected bus system connects Andorra internally. Through this, neighboring countries also connect with this country.

Cyprus also comes in this list. At present there is no active railway system here. Although trains ran here during the British colonial period, they were discontinued in the middle of the 20th century. Today residents depend on buses, taxis and private cars. If we talk about Iceland, there has never been a public rail network here. Volcanic soil, glaciers and low population density kept this place away from railway facilities. Buses are used here for long distance travel.

What is the reason behind this?

Geographical conditions are the most common reason behind all this. Railways never started in many countries. Some countries abandoned railways not because they were impossible but because they had become economically unstable. Cyprus operated rail services between 1905 and 1991 but they were closed due to rising costs and the development of road transport. Same situation happened in Malta also. Despite trains running since 1883, the system was not considered economically profitable.
