Is BA.3.2 Covid Variant Dangerous: A new variant of Covid-19 is spreading rapidly in America, which has been named BA.3.2. Scientist say that this variant can weaken the protection provided by the existing vaccine to some extent. . This is the reason why concern about it is increasing, even though its serious effects have not been fully revealed yet.
This new variant is a form of Omicron, which was first seen in South Africa in 2024 and was later identified in America in 2025. After this it gradually spread to many countries and now its signs have been found in more than 20 states. The special thing is that it has been found not only in patients but also in the waste water samples of the airport, due to which it is being estimated that its spread may be wider than it appears.
How is the new virus?
According to scientists, about 70 to 75 changes have been found in the spike protein in BA.3.2. This spike protein helps the virus to enter human cells. Due to these changes, this variant can spread more rapidly and can also dodge the body’s immunity. According to the independent report, tests conducted in the lab have also revealed that the existing Covid vaccines, which are designed against variants like JN.1, may not be as effective against BA.3.2. This is why scientists are emphasizing the need to update the vaccine in the future.

How dangerous is the new corona?
However, it is a matter of relief that till now the seriousness of the cases caused by this variant has not been seen. Some patients were admitted to the hospital, but all recovered. Experts say that just finding a case in a hospital does not prove that this variant is more dangerous. Nevertheless, experts are advising to remain cautious. Covid has now become endemic, that is, it has not been completely eradicated and new variants will continue to emerge from time to time.
Every time the virus changes, its ability to spread or survive may change. Health experts believe that the most important thing is to stop the infection from spreading. The less chance the virus has to spread, the less it will be able to change into a new form. Meanwhile, other respiratory diseases like flu and RSV are also on the rise, but the threat of Covid is not over yet.
