Actually, the Income Tax Department has recently released the Draft Income Tax Rules 2026. In which many major changes have been made. These changes also include some things related to credit cards. Let us know about them…
1. Information about large credit card payments will have to be given.
The first change in the rules related to credit cards is that if the amount of bill payment is large, then its information will have to be given to the Income Tax Department. If a person pays a credit card bill of more than Rs 10 lakh in a financial year.
If this payment is made through other means like UPI, bank transfer or cheque, then it will have to be reported. At the same time, information about cash payment of Rs 1 lakh or more will also have to be given to the department.
2. Use of credit card as address proof
Credit card statement can be used as address proof while applying for PAN card. However, it is important to keep in mind that the statement should not be more than three months old. Statements older than the prescribed deadline will no longer be considered valid documents.
3. You will be able to use credit card to pay taxes
Under the new rules, credit card, debit card and net banking are now allowed as official electronic payment modes for making tax payments. Due to which paying taxes will become easier and digital than before.
4. PAN number is necessary for credit card
It has been made mandatory for applicants to provide PAN number while applying for a credit card. Banks or other credit card companies will not be able to issue credit cards without PAN card. The government believes that this will bring clarity in the transactions of customers and will help in strengthening the tax system.
