Whenever there is talk of “what can happen in one over” on the cricket field, the name of Afghanistan’s young batsman Sediqullah Atal will definitely be taken. At the age of just 21, Atal accomplished such a feat, which remains an unbreakable record even after two years. Scoring 48 runs in a single over and hitting 7 sixes in it still surprises cricket fans.
When the picture of the match changed in 6 balls
This historic moment was seen in a match of Kabul Premier League, when Shaheen Hunters and Abasin Defenders were face to face. Shaheen Hunters condition was not very strong till the 19th over. The team was at 158 runs losing 6 wickets and the pressure was clearly visible. Captain Sediqullah remained steadfast at the crease, but the match still seemed to be a draw.
Left arm spinner Aamir Zazai came to bowl in this over. The very first ball was a no-ball and Atal sent it straight into the stands. After this the bowler’s control was completely lost. Continuous wide balls, free hits and then skyscraper sixes one after the other.
48 run over and record rain
A total of 48 runs were scored in that one over. Atal hit seven sixes and during this time also scored a century in just 48 balls. This became a world record for the most runs scored in an over in any recognized tournament. This over was no less than a nightmare for Aamir Zazai. He gave away 79 runs in his four overs.
On the strength of Atal’s stormy batting, Shaheen Hunters scored a huge score of 213 runs for 6 wickets. In reply, Abasin Defenders team disintegrated under pressure and was all out for just 121 runs. Hunters won this match by 92 runs.
