Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in 2027, but Congress has claimed to contest alone on 403 seats in the state. After which, cracks are visible in the India alliance of SP and Congress in the state. Congress MP from Saharanpur Imran Masood said in a statement on Sunday, those who are saying that ‘we will give so many seats to Congress’ – who are you? Who is asking you?” Masood is referring to the Samajwadi Party, with which the Congress had contested the last Lok Sabha elections.
Regarding the seats in the assembly elections in UP, many leaders including Congress State President Ajay Rai have talked about preparations for 403 seats, not only this, Congress had also announced to contest alone in the Panchayat elections to be held this year. Now this statement of Imran Masood has given further impetus to it. Right now there is no reaction from SP on his statement.
Imran Masood claims to contest on 403 seats
Imran Masood said in his statement, “We will strengthen our party, why will we walk on the crutches of others? Those who are saying that we will give so many seats to Congress – who are you? Who is demanding from you?” Imran Masood’s statement came at a time when assembly elections are to be held in UP next year. The Congress State President himself has recently claimed his strength by preparing an organization on 403 seats.
Congress in dilemma for political ground in UP
In the last Lok Sabha elections, Congress and SP had an alliance in UP under the banner of India Alliance. Congress was successful in winning six seats after a long time. Its candidates fought very strongly on many seats. Since its organization in the state is in a very bad condition, recently it has only K MLAs in the assembly. Therefore, with this bet she wants to increase the number of seats by putting pressure on SP.
Neither Akhilesh Yadav from SP nor the top leadership of Congress has commented on the statement of Congress leaders. According to political experts, this seems to be a strategy to pressure the alliance for seats.
