On Friday, 3.56 crore devotees took a dip in Ganga and Sangam on the bathing festival of Basant Panchami in the ongoing Magh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. An official of the Prayagraj Fair Authority said that people are continuing to arrive and take bath in the Sangam area since 12 o’clock last night and today on Basant Panchami, 3.56 crore devotees took a dip of faith in the Ganga and Sangam.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wrote in a post on ‘X’, “Hearty congratulations to all the devotees who are getting the good fortune of taking a holy bath in Triveni at Tirtharaj Prayag today on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami. May the ‘dip of faith’ in the holy Sangam be auspicious and fruitful for everyone, may everyone’s wishes be fulfilled, this is my prayer to Mother Ganga.”

Fair Officer Rishiraj said that till now more than 15 crore devotees have taken bath in Triveni in Magh Mela 2026. On the fourth bathing festival of Magh Mela, all the prominent saints and religious leaders along with the Kalpavasis took a dip in the fair area.

He told that Purvaamnaya Shri Govardhanmath Puri Peethadhishwar Shankaracharya Swami Nischalanand Saraswati reached the Triveni banks with his disciples. Shankaracharya reached Sangam Nose on foot from the place designated by the administration and with complete simplicity took bath in the holy streams of Mother Ganga, Yamuna and invisible Saraswati.

Immense crowd of devotees at all the ghats of the fair area

Meladhikari said that apart from this, all the Dandi Swami saints, Ramanandi and Ramanujachari saints also took a dip in Ganga and Triveni on Basant Panchami. The members of Kinnar Akhara also reached the Sangam bank with full enthusiasm and devotion and took bath. He told that there was a huge crowd of devotees at all the ghats in the fair area. The movement of devotees was monitored through the control room. More than 400 cameras are operational in the entire fair area.

Public Relations Officer of North Central Railway, Amit Malviya, said that keeping in mind the additional need of passengers, 22 fair special trains were operated by Prayagraj Division on Basant Panchami festival. Tirtha priest Rajendra Mishra said that since Ganga, Yamuna and invisible Saraswati reside in Prayagraj, hence Basant Panchami bath has special significance here. There is a tradition of wearing yellow clothes and donating yellow things on Basant Panchami.

He said that people start feeling the change of season from the day of Basant Panchami and people celebrate it as a festival by applying gulal etc. Divisional Commissioner Soumya Aggarwal said that Magh Mela has been organized in seven sectors in an area of ​​800 hectares. More than 25,000 toilets have been built in the fair area and more than 3500 sanitation workers are deployed.

Construction of 12,100 feet long ghats in Magh Mela

Superintendent of Police (Magh Mela) Neeraj Pandey said that more than 10,000 policemen are deployed in the entire fair area for the safety and smooth movement of devotees. He said that keeping in mind crowd management and easy traffic, this time there are 42 temporary parking spaces in which more than one lakh vehicles can be parked. He said that a total of 12,100 feet long ghats have been constructed in Magh Mela 2025-26 in which all the necessary basic facilities are available.
