Amazing things have happened in New York, one of America’s largest cities. Indian-origin Democratic Party candidate Zohran Mamdani has been elected mayor. He performed brilliantly and won the mayor election. Mamdani is the youngest and first Indian-origin Muslim mayor to become the mayor of New York in the last 100 years. The important thing is that US President Donald Trump did not want Mamdani to win, but now Trump has also got a shock.
Mamdani has become the mayor of New York City at the age of just 34. He had emerged as the most preferred candidate for this post in the election survey. Mamdani is the son of famous filmmaker Mira Nair and he himself has been a rapper (musical artist). He was born in Kampala, Uganda. However, after this he came to New York at the age of seven and became a citizen here.
Whom did Mamdani compete with in the mayor election?
Along with Mamdani, two other candidates were in the fray in the New York Mayor election. Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo ran as an independent. Although he had earlier been a part of the Democratic Party. Apart from these, the Republican Party had fielded Curtis Sliva, but Cuomo and Curtis were disappointed. Both these candidates were lagging behind in the survey also.
