The number of deaths due to respiratory diseases is continuously increasing in Delhi. According to the latest official data released by the Delhi government, in the year 2024, 9 thousand 211 people died in the capital due to respiratory diseases. This number was 8,801 in the year 2023. This means that in just one year there has been a clear increase in deaths from these diseases. This trend has been continuously upward for the last few years, which is considered a matter of concern.
According to the report, respiratory diseases include diseases like asthma, pneumonia, lung cancer and TB. Due to these diseases, people have to face problems like difficulty in breathing, prolonged cough and weakness. Increasing air pollution in Delhi is also considered a reason for these diseases.
Number of deaths due to heart diseases increased
According to statistics, the biggest cause of deaths in the year 2024 was diseases related to heart and blood circulation. A total of 21 thousand 262 people died due to these diseases. These include problems like heart attack, brain stroke and heart failure. In the year 2023, 15,714 deaths were recorded in this category, which means there has been a big increase in this in one year.
So many deaths due to parasitic disease
The second major cause of death in Delhi was infectious and parasitic diseases. In 2024, 16 thousand 60 people died due to such diseases. However, this figure is less than in 2023, when there were 20,781 deaths due to these diseases. These diseases are usually spread by bacteria, viruses and fungi and increase due to dirty water and contaminated food.
Overall, the number of deaths in the capital increased to 1 lakh 39 thousand 480 in 2024, whereas in 2023 this figure was 1 lakh 32 thousand 391. Of these, 85 thousand 391 were male, 54 thousand 51 were female and 38 were registered in other category. Of these, medical certification of 90 thousand 883 deaths was done.
Slight improvement in infant mortality rate
It is a matter of relief that a slight improvement has been recorded in the infant mortality rate. In the year 2024, the infant mortality rate was 22.4 per thousand live births, while in 2023 it was 23.61. Infant mortality rate refers to the deaths of children under one year of age.
In the year 2024, 3 lakh 6 thousand 459 live births were recorded in Delhi, which is 8 thousand 628 less than the previous year. The birth rate has decreased to 14, while the death rate has increased to 6.37. Experts say that problems related to increasing population, pollution and lifestyle are having a direct impact on health.
What will be the population in the next 10 years?
According to statistics, in the next 10 years by 2036, the population of Delhi is expected to increase to about 2.65 crores. At the same time, having a birth certificate for 99.1 percent children below 5 years of age is considered a positive sign.
