There is an uproar over the alleged Pakistan links of Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress Party MP from Assam. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is continuously attacking him regarding this. Attacking the Congress MP, he said that Gaurav Gogoi has not told what he has done by going to Pakistan. If he does not tell anything about this then he is certainly vulnerable.
It is not a matter of respect for an Assam MP to have links with Pakistan – Himanta
Himanta Biswa Sarma said in the press conference on Sunday (February 8, 2026) that Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi is not answering my questions. It is certainly not a matter of respect for an MP from Assam to have any relation with Pakistan, but it is definitely a matter of sadness. I do not think that any other leader of the opposition Congress party would have ever visited Pakistan with such a large delegation.
He said that his government has decided to hand over the investigation of the Gogoi case to the Union Home Ministry (MHA). As soon as the Home Ministry gives its consent, the process of handing over the investigation will be started. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the interest of country’s security and transparency.
Gogoi’s wife shared intelligence – Himanta
Justifying the need for investigation by central agencies, the CM said that the Assam government’s investigation has its own limitations. We feel that there is a deep connection between Elizabeth, Gaurav Gogoi and Pakistan, which needs to be investigated. He also claimed that the 44-page SIT report indicated that Gogoi’s wife had shared intelligence information with Tauqeer Sheikh.
Assam CM speaks about Mian controversy and Owaisi
Meanwhile, on the Mian controversy and Assam BJP’s video, Chief Minister Himanta said that infiltrators in Assam are called Mian and it is very important to remove them. Whereas regarding AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, he said that he should give me Rs 2, but not with the flight ticket, otherwise I will have to spend more. If the money goes to the treasury of Assam, then what problem do I have with it?
