A large number of fire incidents have been reported in Delhi during Diwali. On Diwali, till 12.00 am on Monday, October 20, a total of 269 calls of fire were received by the fire department. This figure crossed 400 in the next 6 hours. That means till 6.00 am on Tuesday, October 21, the fire department has received about 400 calls asking for help.
Firefighters remained deployed throughout the night at all the fire stations in Delhi. It was told by the fire department that immediate action has been taken on all the calls.
Earlier, till 11:30 pm on Monday night, the number of accidents was around 170, in which most of the fires were caused by firecrackers. On the other hand, a massive fire broke out in a shoe factory and card factory in Narela Industrial area. More than 30 fire tenders brought the fire under control at both the places. There is no information about any casualty anywhere. The damage assessment is expected to be completed by Tuesday morning.
According to fire officials, most of the fire calls were from residential areas, where firecrackers caused light or moderate damage. Fire teams are continuously active. Trying to attend every call.
Big fire in two factories
Fire Officer SK Dua said that Delhi Fire Service received information about fire in a cardboard factory in Bhorgarh Industrial Area Phase 2, Narela. 26 fire tenders are deployed at the spot. The fire has been controlled. Apart from this, there is also information about fire in a shoe factory. 16 fire tenders were sent to extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control. Initial investigation has suggested that the cause of the fire was short circuit. There has been no loss of life anywhere.
Teams remain active
According to Delhi Fire Service, teams remained ready to attend calls till late Monday night. People were made aware to use fireworks carefully and use green crackers. But despite this the incidents increased. By Tuesday morning the complete record will be known as to how many incidents took place on Diwali night. There is no news of any loss of life so far, which is a matter of relief.
Along with this, Delhi’s AQI has also deteriorated due to smoke and pollution from firecrackers on Diwali. For which the Meteorological Department has issued an alert.
