The matter of eliminating the garbage mountain in Delhi has once again come to light. This time the BJP government of Delhi has announced that the mountains of garbage will not last long. In the review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at Delhi Secretariat on August 27, instructions were given that the three garbage mountains should be completely removed by December 2026.

With this, the deadline of ‘Delhi to Freedom’ campaign has been extended till 2 October. Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh and senior Municipal Corporation officials were present in the meeting.

Important decisions taken in the meeting

In this meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, emphasis was laid on cleaning and beautification of the capital. He clearly said that all possible steps will be taken to make Delhi clean.

Instructions to completely remove the three litter mountains by December 2026. ‘Delhi to Freedom from Garbage’ campaign was extended till October 2. Instructions to speed up the development and beautification of municipal parks.

Start and goal of campaign

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta started the ‘Delhi to Azadi from Garbage’ from 1 August. The purpose of this initiative is to make the capital clean and pollution free. The campaign started from the departmental office at Kashmiri Gate, where the Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the position of the secretariat and said that the process of creating a new secretariat will be started immediately. He informed that the location for the new secretariat will be identified, so that all the departments can work in the same campus.

Big change for Delhi

This decision will affect crores of residents of Delhi. Along with getting relief from the gas and smell coming out of the garbage mountains, environmental threats will also be reduced. Also, the image of Delhi will be better with the development and cleaning campaigns of parks. The government says that all projects will be completed within the stipulated time, so that Delhi can be made clean and beautiful.
