Delhi Assembly Speaker strict in FIR case against Minister Kapil Mishra, Jalandhar Police Commissioner accused of breach of privilege

After the FIR lodged in Jalandhar against Delhi Government Minister Kapil Mishra, this matter has now directly reached the Delhi Assembly. Assembly Speaker Vijendra Gupta, calling it a serious case of breach of privilege of the Assembly, has hinted at taking action against the Jalandhar Police Commissioner.

The matter is related to a video related to former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. On the complaint of a person from Jalandhar, Iqbal Singh, Jalandhar Police registered an FIR against Kapil Mishra.

Police claim that investigation revealed that the video was edited and spread on social media in a misleading manner. Additionally, the forensic investigation also said that Atishi did not use the word “Guru” anywhere in the audio of the video.

Question on assembly property

Regarding this FIR, BJP’s Chief Whip in Delhi Assembly Abhay Verma submitted the report to Speaker Vijendra Gupta. On this, the Speaker clearly said that the video on the basis of which the FIR has been registered is a recording from inside the House and is completely the property of the Delhi Assembly. In such a situation, filing an FIR against a minister on the basis of the recording of the House is a direct violation of the privileges of the Assembly.

Serious allegations against Jalandhar Police

Vijendra Gupta said that the recording inside the House is neither of any person nor of any external organization. It belongs to the House only. In such a situation, the Jalandhar Police’s statement that this recording was ‘tempered’ i.e. tampered with, raises questions on the dignity of the Assembly itself.

He said that in this entire matter, a direct case of breach of privilege is made out against the Commissioner of Jalandhar Police.

The Speaker also said that on the demand of the opposition, the Delhi Assembly had already sent this video clip to the Forensic Science Lab, so that all the parties could get satisfaction. Despite this, raising questions on the recording of the House by an external agency is very serious.

He said that the Assembly will take strict action against those found involved in this alleged conspiracy.

At present, Delhi Assembly is taking due cognizance of this entire matter and further action is being considered. It is believed that in the coming days, this issue can create a bigger political conflict in the politics of Delhi and Punjab.
