The Delhi High Court has summoned a report from the Delhi Police on the petition of an inter -religious couple. Inter-religious couple means such a boy and girl (or husband-wife), who come from two different religions. The couple has alleged that when they reached the police to seek security due to threats, the police forcibly separated them.
On Friday (July 25), Justice Sanjeev Narula instructed the concerned DCP to personally investigate the matter and contact the woman in the shelter home on the same day. According to PTI, the court asked to ensure the safety of the woman and to find out if she wants to live with the petitioner or not.
Serious allegations in the petition
Actually the petitioner couple are residents of Uttar Pradesh. On 22 July, he arrived to seek security from the DCP of the southeastern district of Delhi. It is alleged that instead of giving security, the police forcibly separated the woman. The woman was sent to the women’s shelter home after medical examination at 3 pm on 24 July. The woman repeatedly urged that the petitioner wants to live with the male.
Court order and next step
The court directed the DCP to talk to the woman and learn what she wants. If the petitioner wants to live with the man, then the police will have to make arrangements to transfer ‘Safe House for Couples’ on the same day. The court also said that a detailed report of the incidents of 23 and 24 July should be prepared by the DCP personally and presented in the court before August 8.
Significantly, the petitioners claim that they are in a relationship since 2018. Their relation is facing opposition at family and social levels. He decided to legally marry and live together. At the same time, the petition said that they have the right to marry on their own without any intervention.
