High sources in the Supreme Court have denied that ‘Inquiry’ has been started against Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Verma. According to information received by ABP News, the collegium headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna is currently engaged in gathering information related to the case. After this, a decision will be taken regarding further steps.
What is the matter?
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of Allahabad High Court to Justice Yashwant Verma of Delhi High Court. However, this recommendation has not been uploaded on the website of the Supreme Court yet, but a high official of the Supreme Court has confirmed this. It is being told that a large amount of cash was found during the fire at Justice Verma’s house. Taking this seriously, the collegium has recommended their transfer.
Why did the transfer?
High sources in the Supreme Court have said that the transfer is an initial step. It was considered necessary to maintain the trust of the people in the judiciary. This step was also taken because Justice Verma is at number three in seniority order in Delhi High Court. Therefore, he is a member of the collegium of the High Court. Due to his stay here, the functioning of the High Court collegium could have been affected.
Further action will be considered
After the case came to light, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Sanjeev Khanna and 4 senior judges discussed with the rest of the judges. Everyone has said to support any steps taken by the collegium. At present, other steps are being taken including seeking information from the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court. After this primary investigation, further action will be considered.
What is ‘in House Inquiry’?
High sources in the Supreme Court have denied that ‘Inquiry’ has started against Justice Verma. Sources have said that no decision has been taken against Justice Verma on the formation of ‘in House Inquiry’ Committee. The ‘in House Inquiry’ Committee is the first phase of the process of removing the judge from the post. This committee consists of a judge of the Supreme Court and 2 High Court Chief Justice. If he finds the judge guilty in the investigation, then its report is sent to the Parliament. After this, a proposal to remove the judge from the post is brought in Parliament.
