The situation regarding pollution in Delhi is serious. On the morning of 21st October, the next day of Diwali, the situation was worse in many areas. Last night, many people burst crackers on Diwali beyond the time limit set by the Supreme Court, due to which the sky remained hazy on Tuesday morning. Along with this, visibility reduced and air quality remained in the ‘red zone’.
According to the bulletin of the Central Pollution Control Bureau (CPCB), the air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 352 at 8 am, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category. It was recorded at 346 at five in the morning, 347 at six in the morning and 351 at seven in the morning.

What is the standard of AQI?
Let us tell you that AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, between 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, between 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, between 201 and 300 ‘bad’, between 301 and 400 ‘very poor’ and between 401 and 500 ‘severe’.
According to CPCB’s hourly data, Delhi’s AQI was 349 at 12 midnight and 348 at 1 am. On Monday 20 October, 36 out of 38 monitoring stations in the capital recorded pollution levels in the ‘red zone’, taking the air quality in Delhi from ‘very poor’ to ‘severe’ due to heavy pollution. The 24-hour average AQI of Delhi was 345 (very poor category) on Monday. Air quality is expected to reach the ‘severe’ category even more widely on Tuesday 21 October and Wednesday 22 October.
