Amidst people’s concern regarding gas supply in India, fraudsters are adopting new methods to extort money from people by threatening to get LPG cylinders quickly or cutting off PNG connections. Delhi Police has issued a special warning regarding this type of fraud.
Due to the increasing conflict between Iran and Israel-America, the supply of oil and gas in the international market has been affected. Its impact is being felt in India also. However, to ensure that common people do not face shortage of gas, oil companies have made changes in some rules related to cylinder booking.
The rumor being spread about the shortage of LPG cylinders is a hoax created by cyber thugs.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, cyber thugs became active
Amidst the widespread concern regarding gas supply, cyber criminals have also laid a new trap. Fraudsters are deceiving people through social media posts, fake advertisements and phone calls. According to Delhi Police, in these calls, people are being shown the fear of getting gas cylinder quickly or PNG connection being closed.
Calling as an employee of a gas agency
Additional Commissioner Rajeev Ranjan said that in many cases, swindlers call claiming to be representatives of the gas agency. They ask whether you have booked your LPG cylinder. When the person on the other end expresses surprise, the caller claims that there is going to be a huge shortage of petrol and LPG in India due to the war in Iran.
Bank account can be emptied as soon as you click the link
After this the fraudsters say that if the booking is not done immediately then the cylinder of your quota will be given to someone else. On this pretext they try to get information related to the bank and send a link. As soon as the person clicks on that link, the fraudsters take remote access to the phone and withdraw money from the bank account.
The web is spreading through messages
Police officials say that messages like ‘Pay Now, Get Gas Tomorrow’ are also being sent to many people through WhatsApp and SMS. In this, advance payment is demanded by luring the person with the promise of quick gas delivery. Gas companies have clarified that no such demand is made by them at the time of booking.
Resort to fake advertisements on social media
Cyber thugs are also running fake advertisements using the names and logos of gas companies on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. In many cases, people are also being intimidated by saying that if they do not pay the bill, their PNG connection will be disconnected. A large number of people are being targeted through such messages.
Can be avoided by taking these precautions
Experts say that gas booking should always be done through the companies’ official websites or authorized apps. Avoid clicking on any unknown link and do not enter payment details on suspicious websites. Apart from this, sharing OTP or bank related information on someone’s request can also be risky.
Complain immediately if you are a victim of fraud
If cyber fraud happens to anyone, he should immediately contact the national cyber helpline number 1930. Along with this, it is also necessary to register a complaint on the government portal www.cybercrime.gov.in, so that action can be taken in time and the loss can be reduced.
