Delhi Pollution: Every year, pollution increases with the onset of winter in Delhi-NCR. This time the situation has become even worse. This time after Diwali, pollution has increased so much in Delhi NCR that it is becoming difficult to see even a few meters ahead in the morning and evening. In many areas of Delhi NCR, AQI has crossed 400, which is kept in the severe category. In this environment, where respiratory problems increase among people, a large number of people also start facing problems like burning, stinging and watering of eyes.
Experts say that the microscopic particles present in the polluted air of Delhi NCR are directly affecting the eyes, due to which the risk of infection is also increasing. In such a situation, let us tell you today what important measures you should adopt if your eyes are getting damaged due to Delhi’s pollution.
How does pollution affect the eyes?
Small particles like PM 2.5 and PM 10 present in the air of Delhi are very dangerous. These particles are so small that they directly reach the surface of the eyes and get deposited on the conjunctiva and cornea. Due to this, problems like swelling, itching, burning sensation and watering start. At the same time, staying in such an environment for a long time increases the risk of dry eye syndrome, allergic conjunctivitis and even eye infection. Doctors believe that this effect is more visible in children and the elderly because their eyes are more sensitive.
Adopt these measures to keep your eyes healthy
1. Use sunglasses and goggles during pollution
To protect the eyes from pollution, experts recommend adopting some important measures. Experts say that whenever you go out in pollution, protect your eyes from dust and smoke. For this, use sunglasses or big size goggles. On the other hand, if you ride a scooter or a bike, then install a transparent glass shield in the helmet, so that the air does not go directly into the eyes and to prevent allergies and irritation.
2. Insert lubricating eye drops
The polluted air spread outside reduces the moisture of the eyes. Due to which problems like burning and itching occur in the eyes. To avoid this, put lubricating eye drops in the eyes 2 to 3 times a day.
3. Wash eyes with cold water twice a day
If you also feel irritation and swelling in the eyes during the time of pollution, then you should wash the eyes with cold water twice a day. Apart from this, you can also apply ice pack on the eyes. This reduces swelling of the eyes and also provides relief from burning sensation. However, keep in mind that you should not apply the ice pack directly on the eyes.
4. Avoid rubbing eyes
Many times, due to excessive smoke, irritation in the eyes increases and there is also complaint of stinging sensation. In such situations, people start rubbing their eyes. Due to which the cornea also gets damaged. In such a situation, if your eyes itch, try not to rub them but wash them with water.
5. When to see a doctor?
If problems like burning sensation, blurring, swelling, severe pain and continuous watering of eyes persist in your eyes during pollution, then you should immediately contact a doctor. Because if you do not get timely treatment, the infection can spread and your eyesight can also be affected. Also avoid using eye drops without doctor’s advice.
