At St. Stephen College, Delhi, 54 students of First Year have been stopped from giving exams. In this regard, the college had issued a notice on June 4, stating that there are 54 such students of the first year who did not complete the minimum limit of 66.7% attendance. Because of this, these students were not allowed to sit in the exam which started on June 9. In such a situation, the students have expressed their displeasure. He says that the college management is not ready to hear any of his aspects.

Students said this

Students of Stephens, who were prevented from taking the exam, say that according to the process of the college, such students should meet the principal and at least a chance to clarify their position, but the principal went out of the college for 10 days without giving any information. Meanwhile, examinations started from June 9, in which these students were not allowed to appear in the examination. Students say that there were many reasons behind their absence. These include medical or family emergency, participation in sports or other programs by college or being affected due to recent attacks in Pahalgam.

This charge was made on the principal

The students say that when the principal returned, he refused to meet the students. At the same time, many students along with their parents and parents kept waiting for them all day (from 8 am to 4 pm) at the college gate. Even after this, the meeting could not be met. The students allege that the principal misbehaved with him. At the same time, even threatened to suspend the personal meeting.

College management did not help

Students of the First Year say that during this time a student reached the verge of unconsciousness due to nervousness, but the college management also refused to provide help like wheelchair or ambulance. The student’s guards also threatened the student. Students were not given any chance to give reasons behind their absence. When this matter was put in front of senior teachers, he said that they cannot do anything. The important thing is that more than 100 students were punished last year due to not being present in the assembly, which raised questions on the strictness of the administration.

Students expressed this concern

  • Many students faced medical or family emergency, yet no relief was given. All the strict rules were implemented on all, no matter what the circumstances have been. In every semester, the criteria of attendance continued and finally declared, so that the students did not get any information in advance.
  • In the previous years, students were allowed to appear in the examination by giving undertaking, which was not given this time. Earlier, decisions were taken only by taking opinion from the departments. Now that process was terminated.
  • The principal took all the decisions at his level and remained absent for 10 days. The students allege that the post of Deputy Principal has been vacant for years, administrative work gets interrupted and there is no one to listen to the concerns and complaints of the students.

College administration did not give any answer

No explanation has been given by the college administration on this whole incident. ABP News tried to favor the principal of Stephens College John Varghese, but could not be contacted until the report was written.
