Delhi Weather Update: Dense fog amidst poisonous air in Delhi, know when will be the harsh winter in the capital.

Today (14 December) in the capital Delhi and NCR, the sky will be cloudy throughout the day and the wind speed will remain high. According to the India Meteorological Department, there is no possibility of severe winter in the capital and surrounding areas at present and the temperature will remain slightly above normal till December 19.

This change is not only having a direct impact on the cold pattern, but increasing pollution has also increased the problems of the people. Both weather and air quality remain the most important concerns for Delhi-NCR at this time. It is as if Delhi-NCR is covered with a white sheet.

Current weather and wind speed of Delhi-NCR

In the last 24 hours, the weather of Delhi-NCR remained dry and clouds kept coming and going in the sky. During this period, an increase in the speed of winds has been recorded. The Meteorological Department estimates that the wind speed may remain at approximately the same level on Sunday also. There is no major drop in temperature at present.

The maximum temperature is expected to be around 23 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be around 9 to 10 degrees Celsius. This situation is considered equally applicable for the entire NCR region including Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad.

Increasing attack of pollution and strictness of GRAP-IV

Due to decrease in wind speed and lack of cold, the level of pollution in Delhi-NCR has reached a dangerous situation. Today’s AQI has been recorded beyond 600 in many areas, in which the average AQI of Delhi has reached 651, Noida 781, Raghubir Nagar 720, Dwarka Sector-3 800 and Adarsh Enclave 1213. A thick layer of poisonous smog is clearly visible in the NH-24 area of Patparganj.

According to CPCB, AQI has been recorded in ‘Severe’ category in many areas. In view of increasing pollution, CAQM has implemented GRAP Stage-IV in entire Delhi-NCR. Under this, strict checking of trucks and other vehicles is being done on the Delhi-Haryana border. Hybrid mode has been implemented in schools for students up to classes 9 and 11. Public, municipal corporation and private offices will work with 50 percent staff, while central government offices will shift to work from home as soon as AQI reaches 301–400.

When will the weather change and when will there be severe winter?

According to weather experts, there is no possibility of a major drop in temperature at present and till December 19, winter will be mainly limited to nights. Dr. Mahesh Palawat, senior meteorologist of Skymet Weather, said that a new western disturbance has become active in the mountains, due to which rain and light snowfall has started there. There is a possibility of another western disturbance on December 18, due to which medium height clouds can be seen in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and north-western Uttar Pradesh.

However, there is no possibility of rain in these areas at present. There may be a slight increase in the minimum temperature due to cloudy weather. There is a possibility that the temperature will start falling gradually after December 15, whereas after December 22, the effect of severe cold can be clearly seen in many parts of the country.
