The water level of Yamuna river in Delhi is continuously increasing. On Wednesday night, the water level on the old railway bridge was recorded at 205.35 meters, which is above 205.33 meters. Officials said that the water level has been increasing rapidly since morning and it remained above the warning level for the second consecutive day.

The Central Water Commission had issued a warning on Tuesday evening that the water level of Yamuna could cross the danger mark by Wednesday evening. The Commission had instructed the administration and flood control department to be vigilant, people settled on the river banks in advance and shift to safe places if needed.

People’s shifting will start on reaching 206 meters

According to the information, the water level of Yamuna was 204.61 meters at 9 am on Wednesday. As the day increased, the water level also climbed up and crossed the danger mark by night.

The flood control department says that if the water level reaches 206 meters, then people living on the banks of the river will start shifting to safe places.

Water released from Wazirabad and Hathinikund barrage

An official of the Central Flood Room said that the biggest reason for increasing the water is more water being released from Wazirabad and Hathinikund barrage.

Currently, about 41,206 cusecs of water is being released from Wazirabad and about 55,830 cusecs of water from Hathinikund. Usually, the water released from the barrage takes 48 to 50 hours to reach Delhi.

Officials say that less water is being released from the upper areas at present, but still the water level of Yamuna is continuously increasing. In such a situation, the next 24 to 48 hours are considered very important.

The old railway bridge is an important point to monitor this whole situation, because from here it is estimated to be correctly estimated by the flow of the river and the possibility of flood.
